2019, initial data

The number of road accidents (-1.3%) and injuries (-2.9%) has decreased, but the number of fatalities has increased by 1.3%: these are the preliminary data provided by Istat on road safety, referring to the period January-June 2019. The increase in fatalities – Istat specifies – is mainly due to the increase recorded on motorways (over 25%) and, to a lesser extent, on rural roads (+0.3%), while there is a slight decrease on urban roads. These data highlight Italy's distance from the targets set by the European Commission. More figures, but all important: Europe has postponed the target of a 50% reduction in the number of fatalities to 2030, aiming to reduce it to almost zero by 2050. There is still much work to be done and our School is moving in this direction, working to contribute to the most important mission: saving human lives.
