In our Ecodrive courses, we teach how to drive "green," reducing fuel consumption and the resulting harmful emissions. But there's another way to contribute to sustainable mobility: by giving up your car. The transport sector alone accounts for about a quarter of total greenhouse gas emissions; EU states have committed to implementing effective environmental solutions to combat the energy crisis that are also "sustainable" for citizens. An incentive to use public transport comes with the transport bonus.
This is a voucher for the purchase of local, regional, interregional public transport season tickets and for Italian national railway transport, with a maximum monthly value of 60 euros. The transport bonus can be requested by those who had a gross annual personal income not exceeding 35,000 euros in 2021. The incomes concerned are all declared and taxable incomes, not only those from employment or pensions, but also incomes from self-employment.
The bonus shows the beneficiary's name and cannot be transferred to others, not even within the family. If multiple family members use public transport, each must submit their own request. For minors, the request must naturally be submitted by a parent. The bonus can be requested every month (until December 2022 or until funds are exhausted) and must be used within the calendar month of issue, otherwise it is no longer valid, but the purchased season ticket can also start from the following month. That is: if I receive the bonus in October, I must use it by the end of October to purchase a season ticket whose validity can begin in November.
The transport bonus can be requested on the portal of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies until December 31, 2022.
