“Eco-driving” reduces harmful emissions and vehicle wear, as well as fuel consumption. It requires attention, practice, and responsibility, but the benefits are guaranteed. Here are some tips. Use a smooth and steady driving style: accelerate progressively and shift quickly to the highest possible gear; maintain a constant speed, avoiding sudden changes in speed. Slow down gradually when approaching traffic lights, junctions, or stop signs by downshifting, using engine braking, and avoiding sudden last-minute braking. Unnecessary accelerations and decelerations waste energy, which then needs to be recovered with otherwise avoidable fuel consumption. Calculate your km/liter consumption at each refueling and practice improving it every time. More tips can be found in our manual Sicuri al volante (Safe at the Wheel), available in print on Amazon and in eBook and print on Lulu.
