Points-based driving licence - losing and regaining

With the points-based driving license system, points are lost and recovered. How does it work? The initial allowance, as we saw last week, is 20 points, which are deducted depending on the severity of the violation committed. Those who commit multiple offenses at once will lose a maximum of 15 points; however, if one of the offenses leads to the suspension or revocation of the license, the points stipulated for each offense are added without discounts. Those who lose more than 5 points must attend a paid "recovery course," organized by driving schools or centers authorized by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. The courses for A and B licenses, lasting 12 hours, allow for the recovery of a maximum of 6 points. Those who reach a zero-point balance can drive for 30 days, within which they must undergo a license review. Failing this, the license is suspended. However, those who drive safely are rewarded with a bonus of 2 points every two years, up to a maximum of 30 points. For new drivers – meaning those who have been driving for less than three years – point deductions are automatically doubled, up to a maximum of 15 points. But if they are disciplined, they will receive an additional bonus of 1 point for each year without infractions; in three years of driving, they can accumulate 5 extra points.
