Forced Stop, Myths to Debunk

Turning on the engine in a stationary car just to let it idle for a few minutes or – even worse – to "rev it" is useless or even harmful, for different reasons depending on the age of the vehicle. For the alternator to charge the battery a little, the engine should run for at least 30/40 minutes, which is far too long. So, let's only start the engine when we can move the car and use it for a few kilometres. Another widespread myth is the need to top up or bleed fluids at regular intervals, particularly engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, and windshield washer fluid, even when the car is stationary. Let's limit ourselves to checking for leaks by looking inside, under, and around the car; if there are any, contact a mechanic and, when we can move again, have them check that all fluid levels are at the manufacturer's recommended levels.
