An Important Day

This coming Sunday, November 21st, marks the "World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims," first proclaimed by the UN in 2005. Every year, on the third Sunday of November, we remember those who have died on the roads. But that's not all: on this day, many initiatives around the world aim to raise awareness among drivers about correct driving behavior.

Let's look at some numbers. 2020 saw a drastic decrease in road accidents and victims, but this was a consequence of the lockdown period: for several months, road traffic was practically non-existent. Even with this premise, 118,298 road accidents with injuries to people occurred in Italy. The victims included 2,395 deaths and 159,249 injured people.

The most frequent causes? Distraction while driving, failure to give way, and excessive speed (overall 40.2%). And it is precisely violating the speed limit that is the most sanctioned offense: over 2,100,000 fines issued by the traffic police, Carabinieri, and local police.

Therefore, the "On the Right Road" campaign, relaunched by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility on the occasion of World Day, is very targeted and very timely. The campaign, disseminated across all Rai networks and social media, highlights the risks associated with distraction and excessive speed with two commercials. The slogan "Choose safety. Choose the Right Road" emphasizes the importance of conscious choices: not getting distracted while driving and respecting speed limits are choices that save lives.

You can find both commercials on the Italian Government website, here: ON THE RIGHT ROAD
