Allergies, risks in the car

Driving with watery eyes or perhaps in the throes of a sneezing fit? It's not just annoying, it can be really dangerous. A sneeze forces us to close our eyes for a few moments: if we are engaged in a delicate overtaking maneuver or a difficult maneuver, we can risk an accident.

Especially in spring, the air fills with pollen and other allergens that cause even severe discomfort to allergy sufferers. In the car, the concentration is much higher than what happens outdoors. How to prevent it from becoming a trap? Here are some tips.

The first, very simple: keep the passenger compartment clean. It is better to travel with the windows closed and carry out frequent cleaning with disposable cloths or a vacuum cleaner, without neglecting the fabric of the seats (especially if we transport our four-legged friend in the car). It is also good to periodically sanitize with specific sprays, which saturate the passenger compartment in a few minutes and reduce the bacterial load.

Pay attention to the ventilation system! It is essential to replace the air/pollen filter approximately every 10,000 kilometers or at least once a year. It is also important to always keep the air ducts clean, as they can hide mold and dust. Clean them regularly with a soft brush and sanitizing spray; for a deeper cleaning, contact a professional.

The concentration of pollen in the air is higher in the middle of the day. Therefore, if possible, it is better to travel by car in the early morning or late evening.

Finally, pay attention to medicines. Antihistamines used to combat allergies can have side effects such as drowsiness, slowed movements, and reduced attention. It's better not to get behind the wheel!
