Safe Vehicle Bonus: a small reimbursement available to those who have had their car inspected. It is not a large sum – the bonus is €9.95 – but it partially covers the ISTAT adjustment imposed from November 2021. Let's see who is entitled to it and how to claim it.
A small premise. Inspection times and deadlines are regulated by Article 80 of the Highway Code. For cars, the inspection must be carried out "within four years from the date of first registration and subsequently every two years." The first (the four-year inspection) must be done by the end of the month in which the vehicle registration certificate was issued; the biennial inspection within the month in which the last inspection was carried out. To clarify: if a car was registered on October 10, 2019, the first inspection must be done by October 31, 2023. The subsequent one, two years later, by October 31, 2025. Once an inspection has expired, it is forbidden to circulate until a new inspection is carried out; the fine for offenders can reach up to €694.
It is better not to risk it, not only for the financial consequences. The inspection aims to verify the correct functioning of essential components over time, even for distracted motorists who neglect periodic checks. The main checks concern: braking system; steering; windows; electrical system; axles, wheels, tires and suspension; chassis; exhaust gas control; seat belts; vehicle identification. It can be carried out at the Motorizzazione Civile at a cost of €54.95 or at authorized private workshops for €79.02.
Let's go back to the bonus. It is due to owners of cars and motorcycles who had an inspection in 2022 or 2023. For 2022 inspections, applications can be submitted until March 31; from April 3, it will be possible to claim the bonus exclusively for inspections carried out in 2023. The Safe Vehicle Bonus can only be requested online, on the dedicated page of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport website, here. The amount will be credited to the applicants' current accounts until funds are exhausted, according to the temporal order of receipt of requests.
