Season change, tire change

The grace period provided by law for replacing winter tires with summer tires expired on May 15th. Changing tires is mandatory; those who fail to comply are subject to hefty fines (from 422 to 1600 euros) and impoundment of their vehicle registration certificate. However, there are two exceptions. First, if the car is fitted with all-season tires. Second, if the tires have a speed rating equal to or higher than that indicated on the vehicle registration certificate. The speed rating indicates the maximum speed that a tire, when fully loaded, can safely withstand. It is easily identifiable on the tire, where it is indicated by a letter: V corresponds – for example – to 240 km/h.
