A few more tips for “eco-driving,” reducing vehicle wear, fuel consumption, and pollution. Starting the vehicle: Start the engine without pressing the accelerator pedal. Do not warm up the engine while stationary; it's unnecessary. Drive off immediately: this way, the engine reaches its operating temperature more quickly, without waste. Drive very gently immediately after starting, without over-stressing the engine. A brisk start with a cold engine significantly increases fuel consumption in the first few kilometers and increases the amount of pollutants released into the atmosphere. Pay attention to traffic: in traffic jams, fuel consumption – for an average vehicle – can almost double, and harmful emissions can reach truly alarming levels. When possible, find alternative means of transport: in the city, walk, cycle, or use public transport!
