Ecotax and ecobonus

With the approval of the 2019 Budget Law, the ecotax and ecobonus have become definitive measures and will be applied to cars purchased from March 1, 2019, to the end of 2021. What are they? Introduced based on the "polluter pays" principle, the ecotax is a tax that aims to penalize cars with emissions exceeding 160 g/km of CO2. The tax is due at the time of purchase and will be calculated based on the amount of carbon dioxide emitted per kilometer, up to a maximum of 2,500 euros for the most polluting cars. Don't panic, the identified parameter excludes all small and medium-sized cars from payment! A note: the ecotax also applies to cars purchased abroad and registered in Italy during the indicated period. The budget also includes the ecobonus, an incentive reserved for those who purchase low-environmental-impact cars: hybrid, electric, or methane, with a maximum cost of 61,000 euros (including VAT). The state incentive is paid by the seller in the form of a discount on the purchase price of the vehicle, which can amount to up to 6,000 euros.
