Eating safely

Food choices can also affect driving safety. An overly abundant and difficult-to-digest meal, an excess of sugary or caffeinated drinks – which can produce even unexpected effects on the sympathetic nervous system – can compromise clarity, control, and attention, worsening the performance of the driver. What should you choose before getting behind the wheel? The ideal is to eat a light and easily digestible meal. Lean protein with a little bread and vegetables, for example; or a small plate of pasta with a light sauce. The classic sandwich is also fine, perhaps filled with a slice of chicken or grilled vegetables; overly elaborate fillings and those rich in sauces should definitely be avoided. Fruit and yogurt are also excellent, providing energy without weighing you down.
