Road accidents and fatalities decreased in the first half of 2018 compared to the same period of the previous year: this is certified by the preliminary Istat report, according to which the number of road victims decreased by about 8%, while injuries decreased by about 3%. The reduction is mainly due to the decline recorded on motorways (-15.7%) and urban roads (-8.3%), while the decrease is more contained on extra-urban roads (7%). "The downward trend in mortality recorded in the first half of 2018, compared to the January-June 2017 period, brings the national figure closer to the European objective of a 50% reduction in victims by 2020," explains Istat.
