A different point of view

A truly excessively high number: 600 pedestrians were victims of road accidents in 2017, an increase of 5.3% compared to the previous year (data from Asaps, Association of Traffic Police Friends). Roughly two people every day. Naturally, almost all of these occurred in cities, with only 40 cases on extra-urban roads. In most cases, the responsibility lies with the driver, often distracted by a smartphone or under the influence of alcohol and drugs. But is it always the fault of the person behind the wheel? In about a quarter of cases, the pedestrian is responsible, "guilty" of crossing the road improperly, or not obeying traffic lights, or suddenly emerging from behind a parked vehicle. In many other cases, responsibility is shared, up to a borderline case recently examined by the Court of Cassation: a drunk and drugged pedestrian hit by an absolutely sober motorist; The pedestrian was also partly responsible, according to the judges, having suddenly appeared with an uncertain gait in front of the driver. Every road user is always called upon to exercise the utmost responsibility and attention, for their own safety and that of others!
